Vom Schreibtisch des Präsidenten

Dan Phillips

President, Western Michigan Region

Welcome to the future...

We may not have flying Porsches, meals may not come in pill form, and thank goodness we’re not ruled by those damn dirty apes, but...we have a new Über Alles, now forged with Adobe Creative Suite running on Mac OS X. Your hard-working editor finally got some time off, so be sure to thank her personally the next time you see her. Isn’t she something?

Another part of the future is me, the new President of your Western Michigan Region of the Porsche Club of America. Many of you I have met, and so many more I have not. But I assure you that I am committed to the success of the club as a fun and exciting way to engage with like-minded Porsche enthusiasts.

One like-minded enthusiast we would like to welcome with the New Year is our new Vice President, John Walters. John was selected by the nominating committee based on his love for Porsche cars, his years of positive involvement with the club, and his sincere desire to be a bigger part of it. His unique ability to consume massive amounts of alcohol and still remain standing also made him uniquely qualified to chair the after-meeting dinners, one of his many hefty responsibilities.

Mrs. Brenda Hildon-Kaempf and Mrs. Amber Door have elected to remain in their capacities of Secretary and Treasurer respectively. These offices may be held longer than 2 years if approved by the board, as they were. Plus, there were no fervent hoards clamoring for these often difficult and time-consuming roles. We should all be so lucky to have the kind of dedication and talent these two ladies possess in their little toe(s). Thank them the next time you see them.

Speaking of which, I sincerely hope that many more of you will come out with us in the coming year and enjoy the fun as we move forward with new events, new ideas, new members, new traditions, and new friends.

Not that we’re balking at any of the old traditions, quite the contrary. Elsewhere on this website, you’ll see how this year’s events calendar looks somewhat familiar, and that’s the way...uh huh, uh huh...we like it. And by ‘we’, I mean ‘you’. That’s right, you, the person reading this web page. The ‘you’ that gets involved, that reaches out and makes suggestions and their opinions known, the ‘you’ that helps make the club into something they want to be a part of. For those of ‘you,’ we are more than grateful!

And if you haven’t seen us, or haven’t seen us in a while, consider spending some time with us this year. Come to a dinner drive, where you’ll get to travel in a parade of awesome cars to any number of very good restaurants. Come to an IROC, and see how fast you can get around the cones - or just come to watch! Come to Grattan, where you can see what your car was truly meant to do, and watch other rare masterpieces of German engineering do the same. Join us for a meeting or an off-season party. Make new friends and new connections. We’re fun, casual, and welcoming to all. We don’t fit into some snobby stereotype, we’re just everyday people joined by a common love for Porsches.

Everybody is welcome. Come enjoy the fun!
